All students are accepted into the program who wish to participate. Those who already have some experience with their instrument will be auditioned for placement. Placement auditions determine which orchestra/ensemble each student will rehearse and perform with, based on the proficiency demonstrated during the audition.

Grants Wednesday, November 12, 2008 DCARTS International Grant
DCARTS International is an inaugural grant program offering support for District of Columbia arts organizations to travel abroad to participate in cultural festivals, exhibitions, touring programs and other opportunities to share their talents. The DC Arts Commission recognizes the important role cultural communication plays in increasing international understanding. This program aims to cultivate the globalization of WashingtonÕs rich tradition of diverse cultural expression and support for highly accomplished artistic talent.

Grants Friday, January 16, 2008 Arts Teacher Fellowship
Arts Teacher Fellowships offer funds to encourage creative arts education projects in DC Public Schools and public charter schools and to support the development and implementation of innovative teaching strategies to support DCPS Arts Content Standards.
Arts Teacher Fellowships may be used to develop and/or create innovative instructional strategies that enhance student-learning outcomes in the Arts, the Humanities or through arts-integrated curricular activities. The funds may also be used to support the professional development goals of full time teachers of the Arts or the Humanities. Financial assistance is available for activities such as attendance at training institutes, conferences, workshops and short-term consultancies during which a consultant works (either through one-on-one advising or through work on a project, workshop or initiative) with the teacher to strengthen specific skills.

Grants Friday, January 16, 2008 Artists in Schools Grant
The purpose of the grant is to encourage creative arts education projects in DC Public Schools and Public Charter Schools and to support the development and implementation of innovative teaching strategies to support DCPS Arts Content Standards.
Artists in Schools grants can help students and teachers explore new ways of approaching subject matter or art forms not usually available at the school. Artist residencies may include activities such as lectures, demonstrations and workshops.

Grants Wednesday, February 25, 2008 Small Projects Program
The Small Projects Program (SPP) offers quick response grants of up to $2,000 to individual artists and arts organizations. The program seeks to make grant funds more accessible for small-scale arts projects with total budget that do not exceed $4,000. Projects may include but are not limited to: ¥ Art presentations ¥ Assistance in fundraising, marketing and management ¥ Documentation of artistic activities through photography, brochures, portfolios and demo tapes ¥ Conferences, workshops or seminars that will enhance artistic and professional development
