J.C. Knalle Elementary and W7AC Beautify the Community

In collaboration with J.C. Knalle Elementary School, the Ward 7 Arts Collaborative continued its effort to beautify our community through the arts. Under the supervision of teacher Jean Bailey and the W7AC staff, students created mosaics that expressed their pride in their neighborhood. Elementary school students, Gregory and William stated that decorating the planter boxes was "really fun!" and that it made them feel "really proud" of themselves. Amari Carter and Ronita Hoverton decorated their box with their initials so that passerbys would always know that they were here. Local officer James Alexander Jr. remarked that he felt comforted to see young people take pride in their neighborhood and want to beautify it. He continued to say that projects like this serve as examples of why we need to help keep art programs in our schools.
